Maria L. Fernandez, 98, of San Antonio, TX passed away peacefully in her home with her loving family surrounding her on Saturday, February 26, 2022.  Maria was born in La Dulce Grande, a small town in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, on January 8, 1924.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Margarito Fernandez and her son, Adolfo Fernandez.

Maria was an undeniably strong woman to the end who was a devout Catholic and known for 2 things in her Westside neighborhood: her gardens and her cooking.  If you visited Maria, you could count on good food and some engaging conversation.  She was a full-time mother of 8 children and is survived by 7 of them: Frank Fernandez, Margaret Davis, Gloria Quinones, Tony Fernandez (Joann), Maria Yocum (Mike), Ismael Fernandez (Becky) and Linda Fernandez.  She leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

A visitation will be held on Monday, March 14, 2022, from 3:30-8:30pm with a rosary service at 6pm at Castillo Funeral Home.  A mass will be held on March 15, 2022, at 10am at Christ the King Catholic Church with an interment at San Fernando 2 Cemetery.
