Maria E.
Garcia
August 20, 1944 – December 2, 2023
Maria E. Garcia, 79, widow of Jesus Garcia, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 2, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on August 20, 1944, in Laredo, Texas, a daughter of the late Ricardo Medina II and Eloisa Herrera.
Prior to her retirement, she was a talented hairdresser who also had a degree in business. Maria loved her family dearly and her life was dedicated to them guided by her faith in the Lord. As a wife she was supportive and dedicated, placing the needs of her husband above her own. As a mother, she was nurturing and loving, constantly present in her children's lives and devoted to their well-being. As a grandmother she was the best any child could ask for, the greatest at placing a smile on their faces and time spent together were moments that brought her the greatest joy. Her traditions, values and memory will be continued by the family in her honor and with her faith we know that one day we will all be reunited once again.
In addition to her husband, Jesus Garcia, and her parents, Ricardo Medina II and Eloisa Herrera, she is also preceded in death by two sons, Felipe Mendez and Carlos Francisco Covarrubias, and two brothers, Roberto Medina and Richardo Medina.
Family members include her children, Patricia Covarrubias, Eloisa R. Shahan and Jaime J. Rosas; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two siblings, Eloiza Ceniceros and Maria A. Castillo, in addition to numerous extended family members.
The family will receive guests at Castillo Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm for visitation and at 6:00 pm for a Rosary Service.
A funeral mass will be conducted on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at 11:00 am in St. Leonard Catholic Church. A committal service will be conducted on Monday, December 18, 2023, at 10:45 am in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery under shelter 5.
