Maria Gloria
Gonzalez
May 18, 1937 – October 21, 2022
Maria Gloria Gonzalez went to be with the lord on October 21, 2022, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 18, 1937, in San Antonio, Texas. Affectionately referred to as Toughie, Maria has been both big sister and second matriarch to the Gonzalez family for 85 years. At 59 years of age Maria successfully earned her GED. She proudly worked for at Kmart for 35 years, before retiring. Never having children of her own, she took care of her siblings and a few great-great nephews. She found immense joy showing love to family and friends through her cooking. Known for being the chief tamalada; Maria made sure every tamale was done exactly how she liked them. She loved baking and cooking for the family. After every gathering the family would argue with each other to see who would be taking home the left-over flour tortillas. She was very creative, shown through her love for sewing, her beautiful floral arrangements and various crafts where she was always ready to help make an event special. She could be found outside in her garden where she had the most beautiful flowers. A very social person she enjoyed great conversations with people around her, going to the casino with friends and family, and dancing, especially line dancing. Maria was the most generous and kindhearted person, she always made monthly donations to the church and occasional donations to the Indigenous organizations. As a strong and confident woman, she knew what she wanted and was never afraid to make her opinions know.
Maria is preceded in death by her parents Reyes E. Gonzalez, Estella Gonzalez, sister Stella Sanchez, brothers Ray Gonzalez Jr. and Thomas Gonzalez. Maria is survived by her loving siblings, Yolanda Kirkland (Jim),
Sylvia Jones (Jack), Christine Garcia (David), Diana Gay (Earnest), Andrew Gonzales (Vera), David Gonzalez (Carmen), 9 Nieces and nephews, 17 grand nieces and nephews. She will greatly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
