Maria Elena
(Gomez) Zepeda
February 16, 1957 – July 27, 2023
Maria Elena (Gomez) Zepeda was called home by her Lord and Savior on July 27, 2023, at the age of 66. Her absence from this world deeply saddens her husband, daughters, family, and friends, yet it has also reunited her with her parents, Concepcion and Hermelinda Gomez, her brothers Ramiro and Carlos Gomez, and her grandson Ian Hargis.
Maria will always be remembered by those who knew and loved her as humble, giving and supportive; hardworking and determined; sassy with a bit of stubbornness; and for all her delicious homemade meals. And if you were ever lucky enough to hear her sneeze, you'll never forget her unique twist on that either!
Maria grew up in a large family with five siblings. Family meant the world to her. She began working at the age of 16 for the San Antonio Express-News and retired after almost 35 years of dedicated service. This is where she made lifelong friendships that she cherished! After her retirement, she was able to enjoy things that meant so much to her, such as visiting and talking with all of her grandchildren, working in her yard and tending to her plethora of plants for hours, spoiling her pups Champ and Pepsi, and looking forward to the visits and daily phone calls from her life-long friends. She was loyal to her daughters, family, and in-laws, and she could always be counted on to lend a helping hand to whoever needed one. Maria will be greatly missed by her husband, J.R. Zepeda Jr., her daughters Monica Alcala (husband Aaron) and Michelle Carrillo (husband Basilio), and her beautiful grandchildren, Loren Alcala, Michael Alcala, Zaide Meddeb, Zachariah Meddeb, AJ Carrillo, and RJ Carrillo. She will also be deeply missed by her sisters Bertha Pena and Laura Gomez and her brother Pedro Gomez, as well as by all of her nieces and nephews and their beautiful children, whom she adored.
Maria's two daughters may never agree on who was the favorite, but they undoubtedly know and agree that they were blessed with the most irreplaceable and priceless momma.
Her family wishes to honor her memory during her services by wearing purple, her favorite color, and invite everyone to do the same.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away. - Revelation 21:4
