Maria De Jesus M. Fernandez, 89, widow of Pablo G. Fernandez, went to be with the Lord Friday morning February 17, 2023, surrounded by love at home in San Antonio, Texas. She was born February 5, 1934, in Medina, Texas a daughter of the late Antonia and Mateo Murillo.
Maria accomplished a great deal during her lifetime leaving behind many cherished memories. She attended Navarro Elementary School until the sixth grade. For a time, she worked as the manager of a laundry mat but found her role as mother and homemaker most fulfilling. Maria and her husband were married for 66 years before his passing and shared a special love and unbreakable bond. She cherished her most precious gifts from the Lord, her children and later grandchildren. As a woman never afraid to take chances in life she enjoyed spending free time at the casinos or playing bingo; el venado was her favorite card. Enchilada, chile rellenos, and pan dulce were some of her top dishes. Maria's top show to watch was rosa de Guadalupe. Her love was infinite, and not only did she whole heartily love her family she adored her pets Blanca and Mimi too. A mother, grandmother, and daughter whose loss is immeasurable and will be remembered forever by all who knew her.
In addition to her husband Pablo G. Fernandez, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Rosa M. Hernandez and son, Robert M. Fernandez.
Family members include her children, Juan Jose Murillo, Mario Gonzales, Mary Alice Miranda, Ruby Fernandez, Dora Fernandez, Fernando Fernandez, Maricella F. Garcia, and Delia Padilla; 30 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 15 great great-grandchildren; in addition to numerous extended family and friends.
The family will receive guests from 2:30 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, in Castillo Funeral Home for visitation. A Eulogy Service will begin at 6:00 pm.
A Chapel Service will be conducted at 10:00 am on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Castillo Funeral Home. An Interment Service will follow at San Fernando II Cemetery.
