Obituary

Our beloved mother, Maria De Los Angeles Mendez, passed away on May 10, 2023, at the age of 85. She lived a wonderful life surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her wonderful memory are her children, Natividad Aguilera, Manuel Aguilera, Alfredo Aguilera (Patty), Leticia Flores (Ray), Laura Garcia (Jorge), Eduardo Aguilera (Emily), Elizabeth Rios (Joe); 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; her brother, Jose Segoviano; and many nieces and nephews.
Maria is reunited in heaven with her son, Miguel Angel Aguilera; grandson, Alfred Aguilera; mother, Blandina De Anda; father, Ines Hurtado; two sisters, Petrita and Ramona; and three brothers, Felix, Celso and Juan Ramon.
Maria was born in Mexico in the city of Franciso I. Madero, Coahuila. In 1968, she moved to the U.S. with former husband and father of her children, Brigido Aguilera, and their five children. They were eventually blessed with three more children. In the years to come, Maria worked hard to support her children. In the U.S., she worked at Tink-a-Taco and Papa Taco making delicious tortillas and foods, and her children couldn't wait for her to come home so she could cook for them. She also sewed shoes for San Antonio Shoe, and ultimately a seamstress at Levi Strauss. As a young woman in Mexico, doctors and nurses trusted her to assist them, thus learning how to help her family with medical needs in the U.S. She was also a bone healer which she learned from her father, so for any sprains or aches and pains, family and friends would ask her to heal them. Her hobbies included making beautiful Mexican Fiesta paper flowers, sewing, watching her potted flowers grow, and finding a good bargain at the Goodwill. Although her preferred language was Spanish, she graduated at the top of her English as a Second Language class. She enjoyed dancing and singing ranchero songs which led her to win a radio station singing competition. She never attended college, but her love of reading helped to educate her and became an intelligent woman. She was an amazing, wonderful, kind-hearted, and caring person always thinking of others, including her neighbors. Our mami instilled so much love in all her children and grandchildren and we will miss her dearly.

Mami, te adoramos y estas en nuestros corazones hoy y siempre!
