Obituary

Maria Mendoza was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at the blessed age of 98. While we mourn her loss here on Earth, she is being warmly received by her father and mother, Guadalupe and Cruz Mendoza, brother, Octavio Mendoza, and sisters, Amalia Salazar, and Estella Hernandez. Maria, also known as Mary, was first born to her parents. Mary was born on April 7, 1923 in San Antonio, TX. She will be remembered for being generous, loving, witty, and for her servant's heart. She was very proud of her family heritage and was always willing to express and pass on her parent's legacy from Mexico. At 18, she took on the caregiver role to her siblings when her mother became ill. Mary and her father ensured that the family focused on school and were involved in the community. Everyone in the family, at one time or another, all went to Mary for help and advice. Her loved ones would say that she was the nucleus of the family. She entered the workforce at a very young age. She worked at Finesilver Clothing Manufacturer Co. for over 33 years. There she made many lifelong friendships with her coworkers, who were very fond of her kind heart. Later in life, she worked with Ramparts as a caregiver for the elderly, and after went on to work with her sister, Estella, at E & L House of Flowers. Mary loved to be in the kitchen, especially cooking her specialties, enchiladas, mole, and tamales. Those who assisted her will remember that the enchiladas had to be rolled perfectly, tamales spread just with enough masa and if they weren't, in her eyes, we weren't doing it right! Her pineapple upside down cake was like no other. She is loved and will be greatly missed by her siblings Concepcion Hernandez (Mario), Juanita Gutierrez (Gilbert), Aurora Olmos (Enrique), Ismael Mendoza, Eloisa M Yanes (Leonardo); numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends. The family would like to give their gratitude to the nurses, doctors, and staff of Compassus, Juana De La Rosa Service, and Las Colinas of Westover for their loving care. Heaven has gained our most beloved blessing. She will live forever in our hearts.
