Maria V. Reyes passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at the age of 94. She was born on February 8, 1929, in Runge, Karnes County, Texas. Maria was a businesswoman in a time that did not easily accept women in that role, but she held firm.  She tried her hand at many endeavors that proved successful until health and age prevented her from continuing.  Ultimately, she found that her retirement surrounded by her family and friends was her favorite venture.

She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her. Maria is reunited in heaven with her husband of 62 years Arcadio, parents Santiago and Beatriz Villegas, and infant son Andres Sandoval.

Maria is deeply loved and will be forever missed by her children Rosita S. Cortez (Augustine), Herlinda Arocha (Crispin), Yolanda Reyes, and Irma Lopez (Augustin);  eight grandchildren, Augustine Cortez, Jr. (Sandra), Mauricio Cortez, Evangelina Cortez Munoz (Richard), Veronica Cortez (Gregory), Laura Arocha, Christopher Arocha, Maria Lopez Ramos, and Cristina Lopez Perez;  fifteen great grandchildren, Zacharia Banda, Isaac Banda, Elijah Banda, Augustine Cortez, III, Mercedes Cortez, Alexis Cortez, Matthew Cortez, Marcus Cortez, Gregory Lopez, II, Giana Evangelina Lopez, Ryan Mzee Ramos, Olivia Sophia Ramos, Ariana Celeste Perez, Crispin Seth Arocha, Cadence Sarai Arocha; and one great-great grandchild Jacob Seth Cortez.

She is also survived by one brother Adolfo Villegas, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and a great many friends.  She will live forever in our hearts!

Visitation will be held at Castillo Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 from 2:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. that evening. A formal funeral procession will depart the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2023, for a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. John Berchmans Catholic Church.  Interment to follow at San Fernando Catholic Cemetery #2.
