Maria O.
Ruiz
April 15, 2026
Maria O. Ruiz passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026, at the age of 93. She was born on May 6, 1932, in San Antonio, Texas, to Donaciano Ortiz and Lorenza Amaya. Maria was raised in San Antonio, where she learned the values of hard work, family, and faith from an early age.
Maria married Rodolfo Ruiz on September 23, 1983. Shortly after their marriage, Rodolfo took Maria and her youngest son, Jason, to live abroad. During her time there, she embraced the opportunity to explore a new culture, connect with the people around her, and find creative ways to prepare traditional Mexican dishes far from home. They later relocated to Conroe, Texas, where they lived until Rodolfo’s retirement. Eventually, they returned to Von Ormy, Texas, to be closer to family, where Maria remained until Rodolfo’s passing. In her later years, she lived with her beloved sister, Lupe.
She dedicated much of her life to caring for her home and family, a role she carried with pride, strength, and love. During their retirement years, Maria and Rodolfo enjoyed traveling, often taking road trips to visit family in California and Arizona.
Maria was the heart and matriarch of her family. She was known for hosting gatherings where she lovingly prepared meals for everyone, always ensuring that no one left without a full stomach, and a “to-go” plate. She had a gift for listening and offering guidance, often sharing her wisdom through cherished “dichos” that continue to be passed down among her family. Maria was also known for her stubbornness and quick wit, a combination that brought humor and warmth to those around her and made her presence unforgettable.
Her Catholic faith was a guiding force in her life, shaping her compassion, resilience, and devotion to others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Donaciano Ortiz and Lorenza Amaya; her husband, Rodolfo Ruiz; the father of her children, Inez Inocencio Peralez; and her son, Jaime Peralez.
Maria is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her children, Jesus Peralez, Joseph Peralez, Janie Peralez, Javier Peralez, Jason Peralez (Angelica); her niece, Loretta Alcoser; her nephew, Nathan Alcoser (Amy); 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
