Maria De
Socorro L. Cura
February 20, 1938 – October 17, 2023
Maria De Socorro L. Cura entered eternal rest on October 17, 2023, at the blessed age of 85. She was born in San Antonio, Texas on February 20, 1938, to the late Jose Candelario and Mercedes Lopez. Maria was a devout, proud Catholic and remained a faithful servant until she could no longer stand. She celebrated the Schoenstatt Apostolic movement, a Catholic movement that strives to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ after the example of the Blessed Mother. This movement of renewal, a place of grace, and a unique spirituality within the Church inspired Maria to give back to her community. She was a longtime Guadalupana, participated in the senior adult ministry at St. Luke's catholic church and enjoyed volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul. She was also an avid member of Citizens on Patrol. Maria filled our tummies and warmed our hearts with her delicious cakes and pies; she donated many a confectioners treat to church events and gatherings. She was devoted to her family as well, providing a loving home with her faith as a sturdy foundation for her children to thrive. Maria is reunited with her beloved husband of 24 years Jose A. Cura, her parents Jose and Mercedes Lopez, sisters Nieves Cruz Barrientes, Irene Tello, and Mercedez Soto; and her grandson Solomon Manning. She is survived by her loving daughters Teresa C. Guzman (Daniel), Yolanda C. Barron (Marcelo), and Rosario C. Manning (Marcus); 5 grandchildren; and sisters Olivia Lopez and Elida Rocha; along with numerous extended family and friends.
Visitation will take place on Monday, October 23, 2023, from 4:00pm until 8:00pm with a Rosary at 6:00pm. Family and friends will depart from Castillo Funeral Home in procession at 9:30am on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 for a 10:00am Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. Interment to follow at San Fernando Cemetery II.
