Obituary

The Lord called our beloved mother, Maria Trinidad Lopez, home on September 12th, 2020 at the blessed age of 78. Maria was born November 21, 1941 in Laredo, Texas. She was the oldest of three sisters and three brothers, who she loved very dearly. Maria met her life long partner, Juan S. Lopez, at church in Laredo. They had four sons and one daughter together and were devoted to each other in marriage for 55 wonderful years.
Maria was a strong, faith-filled Christian woman who loved to serve the Lord any way she could. She opened her home, not only to her family, but to her church for ministry. She was always smiling and laughing; her laugh was contagious and you couldn't help but to feel joy when you were around her. Our mother was loved, adored, and appreciated by all her family, church, and friends. With the Lord by her side, she was truly a light to the world.
She was preceded in death by her parents Juan Velasquez, Candelaria Velasquez, her husband Juan S. Lopez, and her sons Gilbert Lopez and Daniel Velasquez. She is survived by her children Juan Lopez Jr. & wife Maria; Elsa L. Reyes & husband Raymond; and David Lopez & wife Yolanda; daughter-in-law Lucy Velasquez and daughter-in-law Carmen Lopez. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her brothers, sisters, children, 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous other family members and friends.
The family will receive family and friends who wish to pay their last respects on September 21, 2020 at Castillo Mission Funeral Home at 520 N General McMullen Dr., San Antonio, TX 78228. Visitation will be from 1pm - 2pm for immediate family and from 2pm - 6pm for the public with a private service from 6pm-8pm. A private burial service for selected family will be held on September 22, 2020 at Resurrection Cemetery on 11624 Culebra Rd. #501, San Antonio, TX 78253 at 10am.
For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:17-18)
