Beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Maria Celia Tijerina, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.

Celia, as she was affectionally called, was born in Laredo, Texas on May 23, 1939. She lived in Laredo most of her life and had recently moved to San Antonio.

Shortly after the Korean War, Celia married Daniel Tijerina Jr. who served in the United States Marine Corps. She devoted her entire life in raising her five children and instilled a love for family to all who knew her. Celia had a vibrant laugh that will always be remembered.

A dedicated gardener and avid puzzle-solver, Celia reveled in spending time with her family while enjoying a good barbecue and cheering for the Dallas Cowboys. Her faith in God and her belief in the power of prayer made her truly special. She will be missed by all who loved her.

She is preceded in death by her grandson, Michael Divad Tijerina and her loving husband, Daniel Tijerina Jr.

Left to honor and cherish her memory are her children, Leticia Tijerina Mastin, Daniel (Celeste) Tijerina III, Sylvia Tijerina (Rudy) Cortez, David (Patricia) Tijerina, and Juan Jose (Sally) Tijerina; her thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

The family will be receiving guests on Monday, February 14, 2022 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church beginning at 4:00 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. and a holy mass will be held at 6:00 p.m. On February 15, the funeral procession will depart at 9:45 a.m. from Castillo Mission Funeral Home and interment will follow at Ft. San Houston National Cemetery.
