On August 9, 2022, Maria Virginia Velez of San Antonio passed away at the age of 71 years.

Maria was born on December 3, 1950, in Mexico to the late Ramiero Obregon and Rosa Trinidad Machuca. Anyone who knew Maria easily recognized how valuable family was to her. Her upbringing in a large family as one of ten siblings would lay the foundation to the incredible life she lived. Maria was the proud mother of her two daughters, Mary Jane Velez and Guadalupe Trinidad Velez who were the pride and joy of her life.

Her capacity for generosity knew no bounds and she found great fulfillment taking care of her home and family. Maria loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family. She enjoyed the simple pleasures in life; great conversations, making someone smile, playing games of bingo, feeling hopeful for the future of those she knew. She would help anyone in need with support, encouragement, and guidance. She was a devoted grandmother of seven, mother, sister, and friend who exists now only in our memories and will be remembered forever. Maria will be missed tremendously and while her life in this world must come to an end, her love and legacy live on.

She is preceded in death by Juan Pecina Velez; parents, Ramiro Obregon and Rosa Trinidad Machuca; grandson, Logan Agustine Elizondo; and siblings, Jorge Alfredo Obregon Machuca, Luis Roberto Obregon Machuca, and Juan Valente Obregon.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Jane Velez and Guadalupe Trinidad Velez; grandchildren, Marcel Guidry, Marissa Yvette Guidry, Nariah Navette Velez, Kassidy Angelina Elizondo, Alice Maria Rodriguez, and Novah Rain Elizondo; siblings, Norma Aracely Hernandez, Olga Lilia Obregon Machuca, Hilda Letty Obregon Machuca, Bertha Alicia Obregon Machuca, Jaime Arturo Obregon Machuca, and Ramiro Hector Obregon Machuca; sons-in-law, Carlos Rene Elizondo and Rudy Rodriguez; in addition to numerous extended family and friends.

A visitation will be held from 3:30 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at Castillo Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 26, 2022, at 10:30 am at St. Jude Catholic Church, 130 S. San Augustin Ave, San Antonio Tx 78237.
