Zamora
February 9, 1944 – May 17, 2025
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Maria Medina Zamora. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Maria was born February 9, 1944, in San Antonio, TX. On May 17, 2025, at the age of 81, she went home peacefully to be with the Lord and was surrounded by loved ones.
Maria is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Jose D. Zamora, who remained by her side throughout her life, her daughters Jo Ann Vargas and Mary Jo Ochoa (Joe III), daughter in law Myra Zamora, sister Josie Garay (Frank), brother Richard Medina, grandchildren, Jaclyn (Jeremy), Arthur II (Yesenia), Raquel, Justine, Brian, Jacob, Jered, and great-grandchildren Jesiah, Jenesis, Jase. Numerous nieces and nephews. Maria is preceded in death by her son Jose Zamora Jr. (Joey), grandson Jose Zamora III, granddaughter Destiny Ochoa, parents Juan and Jovita C. Medina, brothers, Jose Medina, Juan Medina, Jr., Arnulfo Medina, Alfred Medina, sister Teresita Medina.
Maria attended Lanier and Burbank High Schools. She worked as a seamstress at the former Farah Manufacturing Co. She had a passion for gardening, interior decorating, and sprucing up the house during the holidays. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Her laughter was infectious. She reveled in dancing and listening to music. She was an avid shopper; an activity she always dedicated some time to do. She will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held at Castillo Funeral Home, 520 N. General McMullen, on June 2, 2025 from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Rosary recital at 6:00 pm. On June 3, 2025 the funeral procession will depart the funeral home and proceed St. Joseph Catholic Church, 535 New Laredo Hwy, SATX 78211 for services at 9:00 am. Interment to follow at 11:15 am @ Fort Sam Houston National Cemetary, Shelter #2.
