Our beloved mother Maria Elena Zapata went to be with the Lord on August 10, 2021 at the age of 85 from the comfort of her home surrounded by family. Born August 18th 1935 in San Antonio, Texas. She was Preceded in death by parents Juan and Cruz Hernandez. Married in June of 1950 to Andrew Zapata and widowed in April 2000. They are survived by their children Andrew Zapata Jr., Yolanda Martinez, Diane & husband Ricardo Rivera, Albert Zapata, and wife Bertha. Blessed with 15 Grandchildren, 34 Great Grandchildren, and 5 Great Great Grandchildren. A faithful member of Holy Family Church and choir member for many years. She participated in a long-standing prayer group and belonged to the Guadalupanas of Holy Family Church. An avid gardener she spent countless hours tending to her plants. Loved interior design and enjoyed sewing for her loved ones. She is preceded in death by daughter Linda Gutierrez, sister Josefina & husband Gregorio Rincon along with many beloved friends. Rosary will be held at 6 P.M. Monday, August 23,2021 at the Castillo Funeral Home. 520 N. General McMullen Dr., San Antonio, TX 78228.
