Obituary

Mario Humberto Campos, 77, husband to Helen B Campos, went to be with the Lord Sunday night February 19, 2023, in metropolitan hospital, San Antonio Texas. He was born February 18, 1946, in Eagle Pass Texas. A son of the late Maria and Federico Campos.

Mario met Helen while he was working in California and the two fell in love quickly. They married and moved to Texas spending 56 years together until Mario's passing. They had two children, Mario Jr and Andy. Mario loved his wife very much and loved bickering with her even more. They were the definition of "An Old Married Couple." Their love still standing strong today, with Mario Guarding his wife from above.

In his younger years he played CYO baseball at Little Flower. In his teen years he worked in the lettuce fields of California and as a Pin-boy at the Bowling Alley. He was a truck driver for 12 years and spent an additional 12 years as a taxi driver. He was definitely the man to get directions from and hated using the GPS and would scold those who relied on it.

In adulthood Mario was always active, always on the move and always outside. Cutting the grass, smoking a cigarette on the porch while sipping a beer and buying his lottery tickets is how Mario spent most of his time.

Even during his working career, he was known for his handy man skills at home.
Whether it was Building shelves, tightening door hinges, or fixing anything he could get his hands on.
This is just one of the many ways he was generous not just with his time and skills but the support and love he gave to his family around him, especially his grandchildren who he loved very much.

He always had new contraptions around the house, along with a collection of items he would never use purchased through infomercials. He had a strong personality to say the least. He was not the type of man to keep silent if something was on his mind. No filter but a heart of gold. He was one of a kind.

Once his long days were over he looked forward to card nights with the family playing "31" and drinking natural light beer. He enjoyed watching his western shows, family feud and prayer service while sitting in his favorite recliner. Mario loved wearing his cowboy hat and cowboy boots.

A beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all who knew him and who will be remembered forever.

In addition to his parents, Maria Campos and Federico Campos, he was also preceded in death by his brother Rudy and sisters Carmen and Gloria.

Family members include his wife Helen B Campos; sons, Mario Humberto Campos Jr and Andrew Campos; grandchildren, Bryanna Campos, Andrew Campos Jr, Mario Campos, Carlie Campos, and Ashlei Toney; 4 great-grandchildren; in addition to numerous extended family and friends.

The family will receive guests from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Castillo funeral home for visitation and a rosary at 6:00 pm.
