Martin Vergara, 80, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on May 19, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Martin was born on August 20, 1945, in San Antonio, Texas, to Juan and Petra Vergara. He was raised in San Antonio and remained a lifelong resident. After graduating from high school, he worked at Santa Rosa Hospital as an autopsy technician, where he met the love of his life, Norma Gauna.
Martin proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Medic during the Vietnam War. After returning home from Vietnam, he married Norma on August 20, 1967, his birthday. He continued his military service for a time and then enlisted in the National Guard.
Following his military service, Martin managed the San Antonio Blood Bank and later worked as a Laboratory Technician and Phlebotomist at Baptist Hospital before beginning his career at Kelly Air Force Base as an Aircraft Mechanic.
Known for his ability to fix just about anything, Martin loved working with his hands, tinkering on old cars, collecting coins, and spending time with his family. He and Norma also enjoyed many fun trips to the casino together.
Above all else, Martin cherished his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for his generosity, quiet strength, sense of humor, and willingness to help anyone in need. His love for family and dedication to those around him left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Martin is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Norma Vergara; his children, Lora Torres, Lisa Lujano and her husband Daniel, Lydia Huerta and her husband Steve, and Martin Vergara and his wife Catherine; his grandchildren, Alexandria and her husband Josiah, Gregory, Ethan, Malachi, Millie, Micah, and Frances; and his two great-grandsons.
He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
