Marty Carrera Tobias, 69, of San Antonio,Texas, passed away on June 2, 2025.She was born on October 22,1955, in Hart, Texas. Marty was a strong and fiercely loving lmother, known for her beautiful smile, great sense of humor, and unwavering spirit.
She was the proud mother of Lizzie Tobias-Olivo (Albert) and Jesus C. Tobias (Sabrina), and the adoring granny of her one and only granddaughter, Niko S. Carrera, who was the light of her life. Being a mother was her greatest honor, and she poured her heart into her family every single day.
Marty was a proud graduate of Texas A&M University-San Antonio and was especially honored to be part of the university's very first graduating class in 2009-an achievement she held close to her heart. She served her community faithfully as a dedicated employee of Edgewood ISD for 19 years, where she touched countless lives through her compassion, leadership, and service to children and families. Marty was a faithful parishioner at St. John Berchmans Catholic Church and gave back as a board member of the Barrio Clinic for seven years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel G. Carrera, Sr. and Josefa G. Carrera; her siblings Lydia Soriano, Hortensia Espinosa, Manuel Carrera Jr.; and her beloved dog, Misty.
Marty is survived by her children and granddaughter; her siblings Frances Sanpayo, Armando Carrera (Helen), Rosemary Semersky (Emilio), and Henry Carrera; her lifelong best friend, Gloria Almandarez; and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Marty will be remembered for her faith, her humor, her resilience, and the deep love she had for her family. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She was the best kind of mother-loving, loyal, and strong to the very end.
A Rosary will be held in her honor on Thursday, June 12 at 6:00 PM at Castillo Funeral Home. A funeral mass will follow on Friday, June 13 at 10:00 AM at St. John Berchmans Catholic Church.
