She was born June 21, 1925, in San Antonio, Texas and was preceded in death by her husband, Donald J. Moates, her parents, Sylvestre and Petra C. Villanueva. Mary's expansive life of 97 years was filled with prayer and giving. Every morning she spent an hour with her well-worn bible, studying daily readings and praying for each family member and her special intentions of the day. She graduated from the San Antonio College of Cosmetology in 1954 and worked at Jean's Beauty Salon in the Nix hospital for 27 years - playing golf in her downtime. Thereafter, caring for her family and extended family members whenever needed – even the role of "mom" to nieces and nephews. She and husband Don enjoyed many road trips to National Parks and explored the Texas back-roads. She loved cooking, gardening, and family gatherings. She was active in her church and made many friends.
At age 50, she won the Baylor Spring Shuffle 5k, held at White Rock Lake, Dallas, Texas. She was an avid sports fan-attending many Dallas Cowboy, Maverick, Stars and Texas Ranger games. She rarely ever missed a San Antonio Spurs basketball game. And kept a close watch on college football, basketball and World Cup soccer matches - she was the family sports encyclopedia.
She was a great example of love for all, giving of self and deep faith.
