Valdez Martinez
October 4, 1939 – September 8, 2023
Mary Frances Valdez Martinez was called home by the lord on September 8th, 2023, at the age of 83 after a long battle with dementia. She was born in Eagle Lake, Texas on October 4th, 1939. She moved to San Antonio, Texas, graduated from Fox Tech High School and got her nursing degree by the age of 20.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother & friend, who will be remembered by all who knew her, as a kind, loving, caring and giving person. She served her church as a eucharistic minister and Guadalupana.
In 1956, Mary met the love of her life, Tomas, and her love story began. They went on to have 6 children: Theresa (Richard Mata), Magdalen (Jorge Medrano), Sandra (Martin Gaitan), Thomas Valdez Martinez, late Javier Andres, and Rose Marie (Michael Vasquez), 15 grandchildren; Jennifer Mata, Ricky (Melissa Mata), Michael Mata (Emma Priolo), Blanca Mata Guajardo (Joe), Italia Medrano (Erick Gonzalez), Adelaida Gaitan, Martin Gaitan Jr., Monica Gaitan Garay (Richard), Matthew Gaitan, Marisa Gaitan, Laura Martinez, Lisa Martinez, Michael Vasquez Jr., Daniel Vasquez, Samantha Vasquez, and 12 great-grandchildren.
In 2002, Mary retired from St. Mary's University. She loved to travel with her husband, playing cards, dancing, listening to music and taking pictures of her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her son Javier Andres, parents Lucio Valdez and Francisca Hernandez Valdez, sisters; Catalina Reyes Garcia and Lenora Reyes Solora, brothers: Susano Reyes, Alejandro Reyes, Lucio Valdez, Frank Valdez, Carlos Valdez, and is survived by her sister Lydia Valdez Martinez.
Services will be held at Castillo Funeral Home, 520 N. General McMullen, San Antonio, Texas 78228 on September 24th at 5pm. St Dominic Catholic Church, 5919 Ingram Rd, San Antonio, Texas 78228 on September 25th at 10am.
