Mary L.
Vidal
November 2, 1935 – September 25, 2022
Mary L. Vidal went to be with the Lord on Sunday afternoon, September 25, 2022, at the age of 86.
Mary was born on November 2, 1935, to the late Maria Benavides and Alfredo Davila Sr in San Antonio Texas. She and her husband Joe D. Vidal shared a special love for each other and together they shared 40 years of holy matrimony.
Mary enjoyed an incredible life and accomplished so much. This included graduating from Fox Tech High School, marrying her first Husband, Amado Mejia, having her two daughters, Laura and Diane, and being a stay-at-home mom until her daughters were ready for school. Mary adored her most precious gifts from the Lord, her daughters, and nothing made her happier than being their mother.
Mary then went on to work civil service at Kelly Air Force Base before retiring after 32 years of dedicated service. She found the simple pleasures of life were most satisfying when she was out in her garden smelling her roses and gardenias and showing off her green thumb. This was her getaway from the rest of the world that she found most rewarding. She loved to listen to everyone's conversations and feeling hopeful for the future of those she knew. Her laughter was so infectious she'd have everyone laughing with her. A loyal San Antonio Spurs fan, she never missed a chance to root on her home team. Before each game she would always take a moment to light her religious candles and pray for a win.
Her capacity for generosity knew no bounds as she would help anyone with support, encouragement, and guidance. She enjoyed being social sparking up conversations with those she met. Mary enjoyed going down to her local Luby's to eat and talk to all the staff. She loved when family and friends would get together for holidays and special occasions. Those times exists now in our memories and will be cherished and remembered forever. While her time with us in this world must conclude, her love and legacy live on forever.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Maria Benavides; father, Alfredo Davila Sr; brothers, Rojelio Davila and Roberto Davila; and sisters, Yolanda Davila and Guadalupe Davila.
She is survived by her husband, Joe D. Vidal; children, Diane Mejia and Laura Martinez (Ben); grandson, Benito A. Martinez; great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Lopez (James Gaitan), Xavier Martinez; great great-grandchildren, James Joe Gaitan and Leila Skye Gaitan; siblings, Rosa Davila, Delia Avila, Alfredo Davila Jr; in addition to numerous extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at Castillo Funeral Home from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 6:00 pm.
Funeral Services will take place on Monday, October 10, 2022, with a Chapel Service at Castillo Funeral Home at 10:00 am and interment to follow at San Fernando II Catholic Cemetery.
