Obituary

MaryAnn Peña, beloved wife, cherished mother, and devoted daughter, peacefully entered eternal rest on November 1, 2024, at the age of 67. She will be forever remembered for her radiant smile, her infectious laughter and mischievous spirit, and above all else, her love for Jesus Christ.

She is survived by her loving mother, Cecilia Salazar; her devoted husband, David Peña; and their children: Reanna Owens (and son-in-law Blake Owens), Sarah Peña (and son-in-law Bobby Flores), and Jakob Peña.

Born on March 25, 1957, in San Antonio, Texas, MaryAnn's life was a tapestry woven with resilience, joy, and strength. As a young girl, she bravely faced numerous health challenges, and endured countless surgeries. Yet, her spirit remained unbroken as she would re-learn how to walk. Her youthful exuberance was contagious to those around her as she raced in and out of her family's corner store, with pockets full of candy and a grin from ear to ear. Her generous heart knew no bounds, as she often gifted away her new clothes to those less fortunate.

In her youth, MaryAnn's adventurous spirit led her to participate in car club dance competitions where she frequently won trophies and many other accolades. There was no mistaking her, driving away in her beloved yellow Volkswagen Beetle, jumping a curb or two.

In 1979, she married the love of her life, David, and together they built a beautiful family. Her greatest joy was nurturing their children, Reanna, Sarah, and Jakob. They cherished countless family vacations, exploring the Texas Hill Country and strolling along beaches.

MaryAnn dedicated her professional life to serving others with a smile and a compassionate heart. As an Executive Administrative Assistant in various medical offices, she brought joy and efficiency to her work. She retired from UT Health Science Center, but her passion for helping others never waned. In her retirement, she eagerly embraced the role of raising Jakob, actively participating in CYO and finding a loving community at St. Dominic's Church.

A devout Catholic, MaryAnn's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She served as a lector, a Homebound Holy Eucharistic Minister, and found solace and inspiration in ACTS retreats, Prison Ministry, Women of the Well, and her role as member and past President of the St. Dominic's conference of the Society of St. Vincent De Paul, her work ethic and gentle spirit a beacon of hope for all she encountered.

The family is eternally grateful to everyone who loved, supported, and prayed for MaryAnn throughout her life.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you consider sponsoring an ACTS retreatant or a Ministry of your choice.
