Obituary

Marylou went to be with the Lord on November 17, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband John Guerrero, Sr., son John Flores Guerrero, Jr., grandsons, Aaron Thomas Guerrero and Ernie Gonzales; brothers, Raymond Flores and Joe Flores, sister Enriqueta Mena and her parents Ysidra and Estanislado Flores.

Survived by daughters Mary Guerrero, Teresa (Paul) Impson and Pauline Guerrero; daughter-in law Lisa Guerrero; sons Ernest (Valerie) Guerrero, Roy Guerrero, Sandy Guerrero, Tony Guerrero, Lee Ray (Trena) Guerrero and Eddie George Guerrero; sisters Gloria Garza and Aurora Sifuentes; brothers Estanislado Flores and Jesse (Gloria) Flores.

Mary Lou was born on December 13, 1927, in San Antonio, Texas to Estanislado and Ysidra Flores. She married John Guerrero on November 3, 1946. Together they had three daughters and seven sons, eighteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, twenty great-great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Saint Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Shallowater, Texas until 1972 when she moved to Wolfforth, Texas, where she became a member of Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, where she served faithfully until she could no longer attend due to ill health.  She was a Guadlupana and a Cursillista for about sixty years, which she truly enjoyed doing.  She was a devout Christian who not only professed to love the Lord, but spent much of her life living it out. She spent an enormous amount of time in the service to others throughout her church community.

Mary Lou's greatest passion in her life was her family, especially her grandchildren.    She loved spending time with her family during the holidays.  She would get everyone involved making her famous tamales. When her sons were younger, she loved to cook for all her son's friends whenever they came to visit.  She was always calling to check-in with her family and friends. She lived with a vision and passion that left a lifelong impression.

At age 6, Mary Lou was a migrant who traveled throughout the states with her parents and siblings to work in the fields. She worked picking cherries. One of her favorite states was Wisconsin. She loved the tremendous huge trees and would walk through the woods.

Some of her memories were heart breaking: Her father went hunting for wild game to feed his family. She remembered when growing up in her early childhood during the Depression and Segregation era, that many of the restaurants had signs that read, "WHITES ONLY."  She slept on a mattress that her father stuffed with leafs.  She wore shoes made out of wire and card board.  In spite of her having a challenging childhood, she loved that she came from a close knitted family who had a high respect for each other.

In her younger years she loved to dance.  She had a dream of one day joining the Air Force.  Her alone time would be spent praying out of her prayer book. She loved gardening, planting flowers, spending time outdoors. She enjoyed sewing and quilting. Always ready for an adventure, she loved traveling up until her health prevented long trips.

She had a compassionate heart in helping others. Therefore, in lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite charity in memory of her.

She will live forever in our hearts
