Obituary

MELBA SANCHEZ, age 90, of San Antonio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 8, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.

Melba was born June 22, 1929 in Cotulla, Texas to Julio and Francisca Hinojosa. She was one of seven children. The family moved to San Antonio in 1940, becoming Melba's home.

Melba loved going to her job at Sears where she worked for over 40 years, retiring at age 75. She met Raymond Navarro while working at Sears, and he became a very special person in her life for the past 40 year. She was a Member of Shepherd King Lutheran Church where she and Raymond enjoyed doing church work together.

Melba loved her family dearly and dedicated her life to their care. She was a devoted caretaker to her youngest brother, Julio, for his entire life and to her oldest brother, Miguel. She loved to cook and her family and friends could never get enough of her wonderful homemade tamales and tortillas. Her favorite memories were times spent at the T-Heads in Corpus Christi with her boys.

Melba was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ana Maria Davila; and brothers, Julio Hinojosa, Jr. and Miguel Hinojosa.

She is survived by her three sons, Cid and wife, Wanda, Ric and wife, Joyce, and Lenny and wife, Dawn; her beloved grandson, Leo; her nephew that grew up as her other son, Mike Perez and wife, Suzie; long time companion, Raymond Navarro; sisters, Gloria Perez and Elodia Brew; sister-in-law, Angie Hinojosa; and numerous family members and friends.

The family will receive friends at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at Castillo Mission Funeral Home in San Antonio. Service will follow at 4:00 P.M.

There are no words to express our appreciation to Dawn for keeping all of us informed about our mother every day. The love and tenderness she gave as she helped care for our mom, especially in her final days, is beyond all of our gratitude. We love you so much Dawn !

The Sanchez family also wishes to extend their heartfelt love and gratitude to cousins Adele, Gracie and Rachel for their endless support, to Signal Hospice for their compassionate care, and to all our cousins and friends that have given us their love and support during this time.

Melba, you will be greatly missed and in our hearts forever.
