Michael Rivera, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away in San Antonio on October 17, 2023. He was born on April 19, 1970, in San Antonio, Texas.
Michael is survived by his loving spouse, Sylvia Rivera, and their two children, Sarah Rivera and Michael Rivera Jr. He is also survived by; his mother, Maria Rivera, sisters, Linda Coronado, Rachel Rivera, Isabel Ahearn, and Angie Rivera, as well as his brother, Pedro Rivera, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is reunited in Heaven with; his father, Pedro Rivera, sisters, Joann Rivera Martinez and Gloria de Jesus Rivera.
Michael was a man devoted to his family. He enjoyed traveling with his family and friends, going fishing and camping. He always looked forward to seeing his son run cross country and track and play soccer. Sarah was his little princess, always giving her advice "you can be anything you want to be, sky is the limit!" He enjoyed having long conversations with her about anything. He was always proud of his kids. He is remembered for always answering any request for help and he never turned down the opportunity to practice mischievous banter with his family and coworkers.
Michael was a Holy Cross Alum, class of '90, who served his community as an employee of the City of San Antonio for 28 years. He received numerous awards and Encore Tokens. He enjoyed being part of both communities.
A viewing to pay respects and celebrate Michael's life will be held on October 24th, 5:00-8:00pm with a Rosary at 6:00pm at Castillo Funeral Home at 520 Gen. McMullen, San Antonio, TX 78228. The funeral Mass will take place at 10:00am on October 25th at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 11624 Culebra Rd. San Antonio, TX 78253.
Michael will be laid to rest at Cordi Marian Cemetery.
