Miguel "Mike" G. Borrego

Miguel Gonzales Borrego, born on October 20, 1947 entered into eternal rest on March 23, 2021 at the age of 73 years old. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon F. Borrego and Estanislada G. Borrego, his beloved wife, Francisca V. Borrego, and his brother Rudy G. Borrego.

Mike is survived by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and countless lifelong friends.

Mike was known to be a strong, determined and successful man who was devoted to his work. He was known as the rock of his family and described by many as the rock of the neighborhood– who many sought for guidance, advice and camaraderie.

Mike proudly served in the U.S. Army and traveled the world before he became a long-haul truck driver, in which his travels would continue for the rest of his life. Mike proudly served in the U.S Army, and Army National Guard for six years as an E5 Buck Sergeant before he fully dedicated his life to trucking.

Trucking was in his blood and he was deeply devoted to his career. Mike proudly drove his own truck for 54 years and his work ethic was strongly ingrained in the fiber of who he was. Mike worked as an owner/operator for many years, hauling many different types of loads. There was nothing he hadn't mastered when it came to truck driving. He prided himself with arriving safely and on time while ensuring the loads were fully secure. He traveled through blizzards, hurricanes, tornadoes and storms whenever he had to without showing any fear. He traveled into Mexico and Canada—wherever the loads needed to be taken. His travels even took him to the White House to deliver computers for the White House staff. He was honorable and easily entrusted with multi-million dollar loads to be delivered safely. He was on the road during 9/11 and was forced to park his tanker over his company's fear of terrorist threat. He was named "Driver of the Year" several times over the years with different companies he was leased onto. He was to be interviewed for Transportes Hispanos, a trucking magazine as a standout chemical-tanker driver for Quality Carriers. Mike, being the humble man he was, he politely declined the interview and came back home to work on his truck to be ready for his next load instead.

There was never a job too great for him to tackle at home, with his family and with his truck. He taught us everything he could in the time he had with us. For a man with very little formal education, he became successful and self-made with all of the experiences that life afforded him.  He was very proud that he and his brothers all shared a love for trucking-and he was even more proud that the love of trucking has extended itself into his family's future generations.

They don't make them like Dad anymore. He was strong in his faith and spent lots of time devoting himself to prayer and reflection with the Lord multiple times a day. He went to church when he could. He insisted that we have faith and pray to be stronger and more capable, and he prayed for us all daily. He blessed us with his consejos daily and relentlessly, and never wanted us to forget where we came from; to continue to be strong, independent people.

He never gave up in any of his struggles, he always fought to be stronger and more capable than he was the day before. He was no less faithful in his fight against cancer. He never relented and he stayed strong and proud until the very last day, never giving us a true indication of how sick and hurt he actually was. He fought hard until the last moment to maintain his stature and dignity as the proud man that he was, although he realized his destiny and was ready to be received by his Lord and Savior.

Dad will truly be missed by his family and all those who knew him, but his presence was legendary, and will live on in our hearts forever. He is now pain-free and rejoicing in Heaven in the company of those who have passed before us. He's polishing his truck in the warm summer sun, drinking a beer, smoking a Camel, listening to his favorite music and gracing our lives with his wonderful memory.

Mike's family has requested plants in lieu of flowers, since Dad loved his yard, we will be keeping the plants at his home, in his honor.

"Pray, hope and don't worry." -Padre Pio
