Octabiano G.
Rosas Jr.
October 12, 1931 – November 21, 2024
Octabiano Rosas peacefully passed away on November 21, 2024. He is the son of Octaviano Rosas and Matilda Garcia; husband of Maria Lopez (deceased); father of Robert Rosas (wife Janie), Janie Cruz (husband Duane), Lydia Herrera (husband Donato), Gilbert Rosas (wife Elsa), Albert Rosas (wife Aileen), and Gustavo (deceased); grandfather to 18 children; and great grandfather to 31 children.
Octabiano was born on October 12, 1931, attended Fox Tech High School, married Maria on July, 12, 1952, and drafted into the US Army on October 22, 1952 to serve in the Korean War. He departed the Army as a Sergeant, and awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal, and an Honorable Discharge. During his time in the Army, he has written many letters to Maria professing his love, his emotions and his desire to return home.
When he returned, he was an amazing father, taking his children on memorable vacations to the beach at Padre Island, Disney Land and California. He enjoyed showing them how to fish, a lesson passed to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also, there were many memorable family get-togethers, especially making tamales around Christmas and New Years. Another past-time was watching his favorite Texas teams (especially the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans and Astros,) with his children. As a young man, Octabiano worked several jobs, such as delivering produce, repairing appliances, mowing lawns, working at St. Anthony's and Little Red Barn to support his family. As a family man, Octabiano worked the long hours required of a steel worker. He dedicated himself to providing quality products and services; a work ethic he passed to his children and grandchildren. And daily, he showed his children and grandchildren how to be a good father and husband.
There is no doubt that we will miss Octabiano Rosas. He left the world a better place, and a memorable moment with each of us. The family thanks those who attend this celebration of the life of Octabiano Rosas.
