Obituary

A San Antonio native, born on May 27th, 1932, Olga Diaz passed away peacefully on Thursday August 13th, 2026 in her home surrounded by the warmth and love of her friends and family. She was an empowered woman before feminism was a part of common conversation. Growing up in a woman-led household, she felt the need to contribute to the family’s financial well being. As soon as she graduated from Fox Tech High School with her diploma, she found her first stable job at Joske’s. Although she lived in a time when there was very little room for female independence, let alone self-reliance, Olga forged her own path, possessing an uncanny intelligence and self taught financial acumen. She instinctively saved every penny she earned to buy the family’s first home for her mother and grandmother at the young age of twenty-two. This quiet trailblazer continued breaking both gender and cultural barriers. She later purchased a yellow convertible to preserve the integrity of her most cherished high heels.

In 1957, she married Tomas Diaz. In her sixty-five years of marriage and in her most prized role as a mother, her independence and frugality became a defining part of how Olga raised her sons. She understood the value of hard work and taught them to care for what they had, and to aspire for greater life pursuits for both themselves and their future families. Olga led by example, showing her children that independence was earned through determination, generosity to others, and the courage to create a life on your own terms. These life lessons have permeated deep into the fabric of the family’s core, and continue to guide the lives of the next generation of grandkids and great grandkids.

Olga was a blessing to all of those around her and a constant source of love and strength to all of the babies that have followed, running through the hallways of her home. This home was more than a gathering place for neighbors, family, friends, and christened adopted sons and daughters. It was a sanctuary of community and faith, where her grace shown through like a light with every smile and tender embrace of loved ones that walked through her front door.

From Olga’s life, we are taught to continue to break barriers, live a generous and humble life, to open our hearts and homes to others, and to find fulfillment in love of God and family.

Olga is survived by her sons, John and daughter-in-law, Angie, Arthur and daughter-in-law Simone, and Richard and son-in-law Caesar; as well as grandchildren, Kathy, Ernestine, Jeanette, Edward, and Maya; and great-grandchildren, Noah, Travis, Madeline, and Maximus.
