Obituary

Olga C. Mendez was born in Clarkwood, TX on September 10,1932 to Elias Cerrillo and Francisca Paez. She passed away to be with the Lord and her beloved husband on January 20, 2025 surrounded by her children.

Olga is survived by her children Roy Mendez and his wife Martha,  Rose Mary Hernandez and her husband Armando, Jose Manuel Mendez and his wife Christine, Frances Traspena and her husband Dean, and her sisters Lilia Cerrillo Paez and Amparo C. Paniagua, 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years Jose Mendez, her mother Francisca Paez, her father Elias Cerrillo, her son Waldo Mendez, her granddaughter Ashlee Nicole Traspena, three sisters and one brother.


Olga was a homemaker for 22 years where she enjoyed raising her five children and managing the family life. In 1979 she started her career working various positions for Edgewood ISD where she retired as a Child Nutrition Manager in May of 1997. Olga was loved by many of the students who lovingly called her "grandma". She enjoyed going shopping, playing poker and Shanghai with her family.  She also enjoyed watching football on Sundays, especially Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. Olga had a great sense of humor and was famous for her quick wit she often used while chatting with her children and grandchildren.


Ceremonies
The celebration of life for Olga Mendez will begin with a visitation on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at Castillo Funeral Home Chapel at 520 N. General McMullen, San Antonio TX 78228 from 4pm to 8pm with a prayer service beginning at 6pm. She will be laid to rest on Thursday, February 6, 2025 with a departure from the funeral home at 9:30 am. The graveside service will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 10:30am.
