Oscar Y. Almendarez (97) went to be with our lord Saturday, June 5, 2021, at home surrounded by family. He was born in San Antonio on December 8, 1923, to the late Salvador and Teresa Almendarez.

Oscar joined 3 C's (Civilian Conservation Corps) at the age of 16. In 1942 at 19 Oscar enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was a paratrooper in the 11 ^th Airborne Division and proudly served as an infantry soldier in Japan during World War II. After his service, Oscar worked painting airplanes at Kelly A.F.B. for 20 years.

Oscar was happily married for 74 years to the love of his life, Consuelo Almendarez. His greatest joys in life were spending time with family, watching western movies, the Dallas Cowboys, boxing and going fishing.

Oscar is preceded in death by his parents, daughter (Yvonne Zamora) and sisters (Theresa, Gloria, and Janie).

Oscar is survived by his wife, Consuelo; children: Rosalinda Quijano (Frank), Oscar Almendarez Jr. (Ofelia), Cillia Flores, Eddie Almendarez (Stella); Grandchildren: Celeste Thompson, John Reyes, Frank Quijano, Eric Quijano, Stacy Almendarez, Elisa Rosas, Eddie Almendarez Jr., Harry Henze III, Lorraine Almendarez and Great Grandchildren: Karina Galvan, Felix Carrillo, Amanda Reyes, Davien Cuevas, Amelia Quijano, Briana Carrillo, John Reyes, Gisele Almendarez, Daniel Quijano, Elliott Quijano, Noah Quijano, Avannah Cuevas, Joshua Quijano, Jakob Rosas, and Great great-grandchild, Kai Garette.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 15 ^th at Castillo Funeral Home beginning at 4pm, with the rosary to be recited at 6pm.
