Oscar Salazar
Alonso
August 20, 1946 – December 6, 2020
Oscar Salazar Alonso peacefully entered into eternal rest on December 6, 2020 surrounded by the love of his family after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was 74 years old. Oscar was born on August 20, 1946 in Muzquiz, Coahuila, MX. Oscar was the 3rd oldest of 11 children and a graduate of John Marshall High School in San Antonio (c/o 1966). He proudly served as a field wireman for the United States Marine Corp, serving two tours during the Vietnam War. After returning from the war, he was a loyal employee of Gebhardt Foods for 20 years and Pioneer Flour Mills for 13 years.
Oscar was married to Linda Fernandez Alonso, the love of his life, for 48 years and a proud father of 7 beautiful children. Oscar was a loving husband and father who often took his wife and children to Paradise Canyon and to the drive-in. He even had a Sunday tradition of pancakes and omelets he would make from scratch. He loved to read – knowledge was important to him and it was evident in his love for Cash Cab, trivia and his passion for tinkering with electronics. He loved the Dallas Cowboys and was a lifelong boxing fan. His sense of humor left all who knew him with a smile and he enjoyed telling or creating jokes.
If you knew him, you were probably lucky to have heard a good joke or two! Most precious to him was his faith in God and his grandchildren. He was a wise mentor and father figure, who was admired and loved not only by his children, but also by his nieces and nephews. He was an honorable role model to all. He will be missed dearly by his loved ones and friends who will carry his memories, love and teachings forever in their hearts.
Oscar is preceded in death by his sons, Juan and Fernando; parents, Gilberto Torres and Victoria Salazar Alonso and brothers, Jose Luis and Alejandro Alonso.
Oscar is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Fernandez Alonso; sons, Benjamin, Gilbert, Stephen (Christina), Oscar Jr. (Jessica); daughter, Jessica; grandchildren, Carolina, Angelina, Valentino, Mateo, Jace, Lauren ; brothers, Raul, Jimmy (Cynthia); sisters, Maria, Janie, Victoria, Angelita (Michael), Idalia, Elizabeth; brother in laws, Victor (Allison), Guadalupe; sister in laws, Vickie (Leonard), Virginia, Veronica; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Oscar's name.
