In Loving Memory of Oscar Elizondo Flores

Oscar Elizondo Flores, 87, of San Antonio, Texas, peacefully passed away on July 10, 2026, surrounded by his beloved family. He was born on September 18, 1938, in Monterrey, Mexico, to Aureliano G. Flores Sr and Maria De Jesus Flores.

Oscar was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was known for his kind heart, unwavering generosity, and willingness to help anyone in need. His family and friends will forever remember his strength, wisdom, patriotism and the love he shared so freely to all he knew.

Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, Aureliano Garza. Flores Sr and Maria De Jesus Elizondo Flores, by his 3 brothers Joel Flores , Frank Flores, and Aurelio Flores Jr. Survived by his 2 sister and one brother Maria Flores Treviño, Josefina Flores Sanchez; and Rodolfo Flores, . While they were deeply missed during his life, there is comfort in knowing they welcomed him home with open arms.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 59½ years, Esther Valdez Flores, and his loving children: Mary Esther Hamm ( Spouse Steven Hamm), Elsa Flores Gutierrez ( Spouse Gilbert Gutierrez), and Oscar Valdez Flores ( Spouse Lupita Flores). He also leaves behind eight cherished grandchildren ( Denise, Jonathan, Jessica, Joshua, Shaun, Spencer, Jasmine and Santiago along with his six great-grandchildren Bentley, Jacob, Alexander, Cater and Carson with one more expected in September (Emery), all of which brought him immense joy and pride.

Our father was a proud veteran, who honorably served his country in the United States Army for 20 years, retiring with the rank of Sergeant First Class (E-7). His military service reflected the same dedication, discipline, and selflessness that he carried throughout his life. He was also a proud member of American Legion Post 593.

Throughout his career, Oscar worked in many jobs in his life with the most profound being his military service and Civil Service at Kelly AFB , Hetz and Via where he remained until his retirement. After retiring from the service, he earned his high school diploma in Nurnberg, Germany, demonstrating that it is never too late to pursue personal goals. He also attended St. Philip's College, where he earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Upholstery / Mechanics.

In his free time, Oscar loved bowling and playing golf with his buddies, Oscar loved to shoot pool with his friends and son, He enjoyed having a beer with his friends and son in law , and enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles which reflected his patience, perseverance, and attention to detail. Our father was also a huge prankster and loved to make people laugh and smile.

Oscar's greatest legacy is the love he gave to his family and the countless lives he touched through his kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
