Obituary

Oscar J. Medrano passed away peacefully on May 22, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas.

Oscar was 87 years old. He was born in Laredo, Texas on May 17, 1936.

Oscar graduated from Martin High School in Laredo, Texas. He served in the United States Airforce and served various posts to include Iceland, Wyoming, Puerto Rico, Louisiana, and Washington DC.  He retired from the United States Air Force in 1974. Oscar also worked and retired civil service from Kelly Air Force Base.

In 1988 he met Maria Galvan. Their union in marriage joined two families, Oscars four adult children and Marias eight children to create the perfect dozen. Family gatherings were always chaotic and fun. Oscar was a family-man who loved Tejano music, and dancing. He was an avid San Antonio Spurs fan, and a lifelong Dallas Cowboy fan. Oscars love for all sports stemmed from the various sports played as a youth at the Boys Club in Laredo. In his adult life he returned to school attending St. Phillips College while working full time.

His family lovingly called him Pops. Pops was a proud father, grandfather, and enjoyed attending all sporting events or celebratory milestones in the lives of those he loved most. Oscar was always an extremely generous man. There was never a cause he would not support and always put a stranger in need before his own needs.

Oscar is preceded in death by his parents: Refugio & Maria Medrano, and his brother Antonio Medrano.

Pops will be forever missed, and the beautiful memories will always be held in the hearts of his children: Rose, Oscar (Angie), Louis (Petra/Tita), Myrna, Mauro (Debbie), Richard (Sylvia), Grace, Anita (Robert), Sarah (Adan), Ismael (Concepcion), Marcia (Rene), Ida (John).  He will also be missed by his surviving siblings: Roberto Medrano, Alicia Alexander, Lidia Garcia, Graciela Martinez, Evangelina Donovan, and his multiple precious grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
