Paul Hernandez
Riojas
September 16, 1953 – May 18, 2022
Paul H. Riojas (aka Sweetie, Dad, Papo, Polito) began his journey to heaven on May 18, 2022, at the age of 68 years old. He was surrounded by peace, love, light, along with the hands and hearts of his wife, daughters, stepdaughters, son-in-laws, brothers and sister-in-law.
Paul is survived by his forever sweetheart and loving wife Sylvia, his daughters Frances, Sonia, Jackie, "La baby de Daddy" Stephanie (husband Thomas), stepdaughters Melissa (husband John), Veronica (husband Abel), Vanessa, brothers Fito (wife Mary Ann), Louis Jr., Joe Edward, 20 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and one on the way due in August, along with many many extended family and friends who love him and will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father Louis C. Riojas Sr. (2000), mother Herminia H. Riojas (2002), and his brother Jose Hernandez (2004).
Paul was born on September 16, 1953 in San Antonio, Texas. In his early teen years, he developed a love for music and sang in his brother's band Fito Riojas & the Sensations, alongside fellow young musicians like Joe Posada and Jesse Gonzalez (Liberty Band) who became an integral part of the westside sound of San Antonio. They released their only 45 with "Que te Cuesta" and "Por Ultima Vez" during the years of 1969-1970.
He was a dedicated and meticulous worker who took pride in every single task at every job he held. His love for music continued throughout his life and into his career, in 1976 he landed a job at Muzak (Mood Media), where he proudly held a 40 year career. If you have walked into any HEB throughout Texas, USAA, La Cantera Mall, Mi Tierra, La Margarita (among so many other places) and heard the overhead music…know that he was the one studying the blueprints everyday, in those crawlspaces and climbing ladders to install the sound system.
Paul spent his life throwing parties, always making sure the sound system and music was the first thing he would set up to get the party going of course! He was the life of the party on any occasion, and his boisterous personality could bring a laugh out of any person on their cloudiest day.
He cherished the times he spent with his family, from birthday parties to oldies y chill Sunday BBQs to Tejano karaoke nights at home, to cheering on the San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Cowboys.
And well, he was stubborn (cabezudo), he was a legislator of sorts with constant rules/laws like "don't touch anything in my work truck or my office", you couldn't borrow $5 without him tracking it in his little black book…and ohhh the lectures he gave! But all of those qualities that seemed to cause an eye roll actually helped many of us that were part of his life learn many valuable lessons….take pride in your work….stand for what you believe in….the value of a dollar and many more.
Dear Paul (Sweetie, Dad, Papo, Polito), we thank you for the beautiful memories and life lessons you shared with all of us. You have left an imprint in all of our hearts.
