September 9, 1930 – January 20, 2026
Pomposo S. Lopez Sr., a cornerstone of the San Antonio Southside community and a
master of his craft, passed away peacefully at home on January 20, 2026, at the age of 95.
Born in La Coste, Texas, on September 9, 1930, Pomposo spent nearly a century building a
legacy of service, faith, and family.
For over 65 years, Pomposo was the familiar face behind the chair at Lopez Barbershop. To
him, barbering was more than a profession; it was a ministry of connection. He believed a
simple haircut could transform a person's spirit, and he treated every customer who
walked through his doors like family. A devoted Christian, Pomposo lived his faith daily,
both within his church and in the quiet, generous way he led his life.
He is reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife Maria G. Lopez, his son Pomposo "Paul"
Lopez Jr, his daughter Isabel G. Lopez and his siblings.
His legacy will live on with his Daughter-in-law Patricia Ann Lopez, seven grandchildren,
Cynthia L. Garcia, Raymond L. Garcia IV (Tiffany Rodriguez), Emilie N. Prado, Abraham R.
Castillo, Amanda B. Castillo and Andrew A. Castillo; Thirteen great-grandchildren, Felicia I.
Garcia (Joey Salazar), Jaime C. Hernandez Jr. (Ariel Garcia), Gabrielle J. Hernandez, Nevaeh
B. and Devin M. Garcia, Mercedes, Miley & Maci Villalobos, Riley J. Mares, Kaleb R. Mares
and Castian C. Gonzalez; five great great-grandchildren, Harper V. and Charlotte I.
Hernandez, Osiris A. and Adonis M. Salazar, Elias V.B. Hernandez and his beloved two
grand pups Baby and Zoey M. Lopez.
His family was his greatest pride, and his stories of them will echo in the hearts of those
who loved him.
