Obituary

Rachel Cantu

October 21, 1933 – June 7, 2025

Rachel Cantu, cherished daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, tía, and dear friend, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2025, at the age of 91. Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Rachel was the devoted wife to the late Rosario Cantu, with whom she shared over 50 years of a loving and enduring marriage.

A woman of unwavering faith, gentle strength, and limitless devotion, Rachel lived a life centered around family and service. She was the proud mother of five children: Edward Cantu, Debra Alvarado, Michael Cantu and his wife Chanel, Brenda Harrington and her husband Sean, and Steven Cantu, who preceded her in death. She also leaves behind a lasting legacy of 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Rachel's home was truly the heart of the family — a place of warmth, laughter, and love, always filled with the comforting aroma of her homemade meals. She took great pride in her role as matriarch, offering guidance, encouragement, and unconditional love to all. Known for her generosity, Rachel opened her heart and kitchen to nieces, nephews, neighborhood children, classmates, and teammates alike — all of whom were welcomed as family.

She was a lifelong member of her church and a committed servant to her community, embodying grace, compassion, and resilience. Rachel was also a proud and loyal fan of the San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Cowboys, rarely missing a game and cheering them on with heart and spirit. Just as passionately, she loved watching her children and grandchildren play sports — whether on the field or court, she was always their biggest fan, proudly supporting them every step of the way

Her legacy of faith, kindness, and joy will live on in every life she touched. Rachel will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
