Rachel G. Hernandez was called home, to be with our heavenly father January 29, 2020. Rachel was born Eduvigen Raquel Gonzales April 17, 1928 in San Antonio, Texas, the daughter of Manuela (Rangel) and Jose Gonzales. At the age of 17, she married Martin Hernandez who preceded her in death in 1976.
Rachel grew up assisting her grandmother who was a midwife often telling stories of the births she assisted in. She became a talented seamstress making thoughtful items for nearly all family members. Rachel retired after dedicating 20+ years of service to Robert B. Green Hospital as well as University Hospital.
She is preceded in death by her mother Manuela (1956), her Husband Martin (1976), Her Daughter Dolores Castillo (2010), Her son Raymond Hernandez (2013), and her son Martin A. Hernandez (2018).
She is survived by her daughters, Irene H. Rangel, Zulema H. Guevara, Sandra Panciera, Candelaria H. Chairez, and sons Ernest Hernandez, Johnny Hernandez, and their spouses/partners Herlinda Alva, Elena Mendez, Linda Garza, Trinidad Chairez, Belinda Hernandez, and Terry Benavidez. She had numerous grandchildren along with several great grandchildren who love her dearly. While we mourn the loss of our Beloved Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, and Aunt, we want to emphasize just how grateful we are for having been blessed by her 91 years of life, therefore, we choose to celebrate.
