Obituary

Raul Jose Garza, 96, went to be with the Lord on Thursday morning, March 16, 2023, at his residence in San Antonio, Texas. He was born in San Antonio Texas on May 13, 1926, a son of the late Beatriz and Roberto Garza. Raul led a life of service to both the Lord and his country. He was a faithful catholic humble before God and devoted to his teachings. Raul was especially proud of his time in service where he dedicated a huge portion of his life to the United States Military. He served in WWII as a lower ball turret gunner on a B-17 while in the Army Air Corps. Upon completion of his first term, Raul enlisted into the Air Force Reserves. He trained and work at many bases in San Antonio to include, Randolph Air Force Base, Brooks Air Force Base, and Kelly Air Force Base. For the remainder of his life he stayed true to the morals and values held dear to him from service, he remained active with the VFW, DAV, and the American Legion. His capacity for generosity knew no bounds as he would help anyone in need with support, encouragement, and guidance. He loved spending time at the "ranch" and being outdoors hunting and fishing or working on vehicles. Raul loved getting together with family and friends, creating memories at family gatherings or enjoying happy hour at So Side Bar. He love was boundless and was felt even by his dog 'Chewy' whom he spoiled with pleasure. A father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, husband, and friend who will be missed eternally until we meet again. In addition to his parents, Beatriz and Roberto Garza, he was also preceded in death by his son, Raul Garza Jr; first wife, Estella H. Garza; sisters, Virginia Beatriz and Maria Gloria Garza; and brothers, Roberto Garza Jr, Armando Garza, and Sergio Garza. Family members include a daughter, Belinda Palacios (Eulalio); grandchildren, Micheal, Roland and Stephanie; 9 great-grandchildren; a sister, Raquel G. Fernandez; wife, Dora P. Garza and numerous extended family and friends. The family will receive guest on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Castillo Funeral Home from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm for visitation and a rosary service at 6:00 pm. A mass will be conducted on Wednesday, March 29, 2023. At St Josephs – South San Catholic Church at 10:00 am followed by interment with full military honors at San Fernando II Catholic Cemetery
