Rene A.
Guerra
January 7, 1947 – October 17, 2021
Command Sergeant Major Rene A Guerra was called home to be with our Lord on Sunday, October 17, 2021, at the age of 74. He passed away peacefully with his loved ones by his side.
Rene was born on January 7, 1947, in the west side of San Antonio, TX. In his early years he learned to play the bass guitar and played bass guitar on songs "Don't Leave Me Baby" with Dino Bazan and Dell Tones and "No time for You" with The Commands. In February 1970 at the age of 22 he enlisted in the US Army and served a distinguished military career for the next 27 years. During his military career he received numerous awards and medals to include the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star and Air Medal of Valor with Device. In September 1995, CSM Rene Guerra was recognized at Ft. Sam Houston as the highest decorated Hispanic US solider living in San Antonio, TX and was given a plaque for this distinction. In March 2014, his story was published on Texas Capital Vietnam Veterans Monument website as part of the "Living Monument" http://tcvvm.org/project/rene-guerra/
In civilian life after retirement, Rene especially enjoyed spending time with his family and dogs Lucky and Pooch. With a booming voice, twinkly eyes, and fiery spirit he relentlessly teased those he loved and cared for most. He was extremely proud of his children, who all continue his legacy of being of service to others.
He is preceded in death by his mother Eva C. Ratcliff, father Narciso Guerra, siblings Robert Valencia, Sylvia Quinones, Mario Guerra, and Roland Guerra. Nephews Paul A Guerra, and Raul N. Guerra, Jr.
Rene was a devoted husband to his wife of 57 years, Angelita Guerrero Guerra, a dedicated father to his children, daughter Annette Guerra Gonzales (Robert), and sons, Rene Jr. (Lisette), and RJ (Roxan), and loving grandfather to 11 grandchildren, Robert Gonzales (Chantelle), Patrick Gonzales (Ashley), Alyssa Kelly (Reagan Givens), Kainen, Brooklyn, Kameron and Kade Guerra; Madison, Dylan, Mason, and Elliott Guerra. 5 great grandchildren, Zayden Gonzales, Kennadie and Jordan Gonzales, Charlette and Caleb Kelly.
Rene is also survived by his brother, Raul N Guerra, numerous nephews and nieces and extended family members.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the administrators (Josh Every and Lillian Ortega) and staff at Sonterra Health Center, but especially to Orlen, Sammie, Jackie, Leilani, Martin, Mr. Lopez, Lala, and Elida; and to Melissa Moody and David Melton from Embrace Hospice for the kind and compassionate care provided to our beloved Rene.
Until we see you again, " Papasito Lindo, te quero mucho"
