Obituary

Richard Alexander De La Garza, affectionately known by his friends and family as "Kikie," was called home by the Lord on March 27, 2022. He was 53 years old. Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas to George and Dolores (Ybarra) De La Garza on November 10, 1968.

Richard was a loving son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many. Although he didn't have children of his own, he was a father figure to many of his nieces and nephews. Richard was a proud alumnus of Sidney Lanier High School. He enjoyed singing and dancing to all genres of music, specifically oldies, 80's and cumbias. Richard was a lover of barbecues and family gatherings. Fried chicken was one of his signature dishes he'd cook for the family. He was a family-oriented individual who cherished whenever family would call or visit. His love for family was evident because he wore his heart on his sleeve and his generosity knew no bounds, even when he didn't have much to give. Anyone who knew him, knew he had such a big heart and an unforgettable smile.  His mother, Dolores, had a big impact on his life and they had an inseparable bond. He was humbly social and made friends everywhere he went.  His unique sense of humor created countless nicknames for all who knew him. He often would speak of how fond he was of his nephews specifically, Orlando "Lalito" Gonzales, Anthony "El Babe" De La Garza, and Simon "Simeys" De La Garza.

He loved a good laugh and sharing stories of his younger years. He was a loyal fan of the San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Cowboys. His personal hobbies included karaoke, lifting weights, and playing basketball. He will be remembered watching Three's Company, playing along to Family Fued and yelling at the tv during a Spurs basketball game.

Richard is preceded in death by his father George De La Garza Sr.; sister, Sandra De La Garza; uncle, Carlos Ybarra; grandmother, Maria Lucio Ybarra; and brother George De La Garza Jr.

He is survived by his loving mother, Dolores De La Garza; sister, Erlinda De La Garza; sister, Jeanette Espinoza; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

All those moments will exist in our memories and be cherished forever. Richard is loved and will be missed deeply, but we find comfort knowing he is in heaven with his father, George Sr., his brother George Jr. and his sister Sandra catching up on lost time. Until we meet again.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 10, 2022, from 2:30 pm until 8:00 pm, with a Rosary at 6:00 pm at Castillo Mission Funeral Home, 520 N. Gen. McMullen.
