Richard Vela Gomez entered eternal rest on October 7, 2021, at the age of 76. He was preceded in death by his parents Ysavel and Julia Gomez and his sister Dora Amaya. He is survived by his loving wife Elida R. Gomez who was the love of his life for 57 years; His Daughters Jackie Delgado (Danny), Jeanette Gomez, Son Richard Gomez (Diana) Grandchildren Daniel, Sabrina (Bill), Richey and Tristin. His sister Rebecca Torres (Tony). He also had many adopted grandkids whom he loved very much and they loved him and would call him Popo. He is also survived by cousins and extended family. He was a loving father, grandfather and a hardworking man. He was very detail oriented and had a strong work ethic. He worked at Alamo Iron Works and retired after 47 years. He enjoyed his annual fishing trip to Rockport with his family as well as gambling in Kickapoo and buying his lottery tickets. He loved the many home cooked meals his wife would make with his family sitting around the table. He especially lit up every time one of his grandchildren walked through the door and always expected a loving kiss on the cheek as a greeting. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy and he lived to see them happy and growing. He enjoyed spending time with grandkids, giving them advice about life and watching old movies in his recliner. He also took pride in working on his lawn. He was a people person and made many friends everywhere he went and enjoyed chatting, especially about food. He now leaves an empty recliner, an empty chair at the table, and a great hole in our hearts but we have peace in knowing he is with our Lord Jesus Christ.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 from 3:30pm until 8:00pm with a Rosary at 6:00pm. Family and friends will depart in procession at 9:00am on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 for a 10:00am Mass at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Interment to follow at San Fernando Cemetery III.
