Obituary

Roberto Rivera Cortez, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, November 7, 2022, at the age of 77. Roberto was born on May 24, 1945 in San Antonio, Texas. He joined the military at a very young age, sacrificing and dedicating over 16 years of his life to three branches of service including the United States National Guard, The United States Army, and The United States Air Force. While in the military a beautiful love story began with his wife Consuelo and shortly after " Bobby's bunch" was created. Following his time in the military he worked in real estate remodeling homes. He was a jack of all trades often referred to by his family as "Bob the builder", there was nothing he couldn't fix. His passions in life were cooking, family gatherings and gambling.  He introduced his family to Chinese and Turkish cultures by way of food, and no one can forget his famous barbecue.  He loved weekend and family gatherings often inviting home strangers he and his wife met while out at the NCO club or a public restaurant. Roberto enjoyed to gamble often traveling to Kickapoo Casino in Eagle Pass.

He is reunited in heaven with his wife of 45 years Consuelo Cortez; parents, Pilar and Trinidad Cortez; siblings, Raymond, Joe, Domingo, Pablo, Ray, Josie, Beatrice, Cruz, Rosie and Mary, newly reunited they are protecting their family from heaven.

He is forever missed by his children, Cora, Esther, Norma, Fernando, Carmen, Patricia, John, Robert Jr., and Marissa. The legacy he leaves behind are his over 100 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. Roberto is deeply loved and greatly missed by all those that knew and loved him.

Services will be held on Monday, November 21,2022 from 3:30pm to 8pm with a Rosary to be recited at 6pm that evening.  On Tuesday, November 22, 2022 a formal funeral procession will depart Castillo Funeral Home at 10:45am for an 11:30 am Funeral Mass at St James the Apostle Catholic Church with interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery will military honors rendered by the United States Air Force. Roberto's family would like to express their sincerest gratitude for the outpour of love and support they have received from all that knew Roberto.
