Roberto Garcia Guajardo, 73, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on January 20, 2021 at the family home. Roberto was born November 30, 1947 to Belia G. Garcia and Frutoso Guajardo, Sr. Soon after high school graduation Roberto joined the Marines in July 1967. Roberto left the military in April of 1969 with the rank of Lance Corporal as a Rifleman. Medal Commendations include: Navy Unit Commendation; Vietnamese Service Medal, with 1*; National Defence Service Medal; Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry (Silver); Vietnamese Campaign Medal, w/(60-); Sharpshooter Badge, M-14 Rifle.
Roberto was a man that family and friends could always rely on for a helping hand, a big smile or a beer. He began his construction career in Dallas and Houston, Texas then returned to San Antonio to start his own business. He worked as he lived with integrity and determination while supporting his family and illustrating compassion and kindness to his workers and employers alike.
Roberto is survived by the love of his life and 50 years of marriage, Maria Sanchez Guajardo and two daughters Myra Guajardo (John Cortes) and Carla Guajardo and one grandson Marc Garza. Roberto is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Cornelio Guajardo, Sr,. Ysrael (Roy) Guajardo, Frutoso Guajardo, Jr. Surviving siblings include his brother Eleazar G. Guajardo (Gloria), his sisters Ernestina Villalon (Julio), Rachael Hernandez and Elma Guajardo.
A memorial service will be held at Castillo Mission Funeral Home on February 11 th with an opportunity to pay your respects from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. The memorial service begins at 6:00 p.m. with selected family and friends due to the pandemic restrictions.
DISCLOSURE: Due to Covid-19 Guidelines, capacity at Castillo Mission is set at 40. During your visit, mask/face coverings are required and you are asked to practice social distancing at all times. If you have tested positive for Covid-19, you are not able to attend services at the funeral home, church and/or cemetery until you have a negative result test.
For the graveside service on February 12 th we will depart from the Castillo Mission Funeral Home at 12:00 p.m. and proceed to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery for the 1:00 p.m. service . Invited guests only due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery restrictions: Starting Thursday January 21, 2021, NO MORE THAN 25 family members and friends can attend a committal service. This is being strictly adhered to for the safety of our staff, honor guards, funeral homes and family members. Dove release, mariachi's additional clergy, VSO members and any other members of the family are included in the 25 family members.
