Rodney Lee Hurst, Jr. passed away suddenly on November 20, 2021, at the age of 33. He was born on March 8, 1988, in San Antonio, TX to parents Mary Ann Martinez and Rodney Lee Hurst. He was a cherished son, nephew, cousin, and friend to so many and will be deeply missed. His animated and humorous personality drew people to him and resulted in long-lasting friendships. He made a remarkable impact on the lives of those who knew him, always sacrificing his own needs for others. Rodney Lee was a bighearted, kind, and gentle young man who was dedicated to his family and loved ones.
He is preceded in death by maternal grandparents Donaciana Anita and Edward Martinez, Sr.; paternal grandparents Sharon and Billy S. Hurst; Aunt Lydia Martinez; Uncle Edward Martinez, Jr.; and Cousin Daniel Martinez. He is survived by his parents Mary Ann Martinez and Rodney Lee Hurst; half-sister Breanna K.; Aunt Mary Evelyn Martinez; Aunt Mary Theresa Martinez-Gonzalez and spouse Steven S. Gonzalez; Aunt Felicitas Rivas; Uncle Roland Arce; Cousin Eric Martinez; Cousin Adalyn V. Gonzalez; numerous cousins overseas; Nephew Levi E.; Niece Brenleigh K.; and countless friends.
Graduating from William H. Taft High School in 2007, Rodney Lee Hurst, Jr. then proceeded to work in sales, management, training, and quality assurance with various companies in San Antonio and Killeen, TX. He fully enjoyed life, and loved cooking, baking, barbecuing, fishing, going to the movies, singing karaoke, sharing funny YouTube videos, and spending time with family and friends. He left a huge mark on our hearts and will be profoundly missed. The world will never be the same without our Rodney Lee.
Visitation will take place at Castillo Funeral Home, 520 N. General McMullen, 78228 on Sunday, December 5, 2021 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm with a Rosary to start at 6:00pm. Family and friends will gather at Castillo Funeral Home to depart at 11:30am on Monday, December 6, 2021 for a 12:30pm Funeral Mass at St. Paul Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery at Cordi Marion.
