Rodolfo Navarro
Diaz Jr.
April 10, 1946 – July 21, 2023
On Friday, July 21, 2023, the family lost a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather & Great grandfather, Rodolfo Navarro Diaz Jr. due to a tragic accident. Rudy was born on April 10, 1946, in San Antonio, Texas and was 77 years old at the time of his death.
Rudy was born to Rodolfo P. Diaz Sr. & Florencia N. Diaz who are both deceased. Rudy was the oldest of 8 children and is preceded in death by his sister Esther Oliva. He is survived by his siblings Alfonso (Janie) Diaz Sr., Antonio (Susie) Diaz Sr., Sarah (Ramiro) Rodriguez, Josie (Robert) Pesina, Daniel Diaz & Angelo (Minnie) Diaz. He also had many nieces and nephews.
Rudy attended school in the Edgewood District and graduated from Edgewood High School in 1964. Rudy started attending San Antonio Junior College before he volunteered for the Army in 1965. Rudy served one year in Vietnam where he earned the Vietnam Service Medal W/2 Bronze Service Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal W/Device, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal & Expert Rifle.
After his tour in Vietnam Rudy married Raquel Martinez on July 16, 1967. In 1969 they welcomed their first child, Rodolfo M. Diaz III.
Rudy and Raquel had a total of three children: Rodolfo (Sarah) Diaz III, Telesforo (Myra +) Diaz & Florencia (Roger) Barnett. He had eight grandchildren: Rose Diaz, Liam Diaz, Olivia Diaz, Santino Diaz, Crystal (John) Justice, Megan Barnett, Elizabeth Barnett & Roger Barnett III. There are also three great grandchildren: Niko Justice, Johnathan Justice & Emmalyn Lucy Justice. Rodolfo & Raquel were married for 56 years. Rudy worked in the electrical field for more than 50 years and did residential, commercial and industrial electrical work.
During those years, Rudy was active in his church where he served in several ministries as an Usher, member of the Knights of Columbus, Festival Assistant Co-chair for several years and helped with many electrical repairs the church needed. He was also an avid coin collector for most of his life.
FUNERAL SERVICES
Visitation services will be held on Wednesday August 9, 2023, at Castillo Funeral Home, located at 520 N. General McMullen, San Antonio, TX 78237 with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m.
On Thursday, August 10, 2023, a mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church located at 1204 Castroville Road, San Antonio, TX 78237 and following the mass he will be laid to rest at San Fernando Cemetery III located at 1735 Cupples Road, San Antonio, Texas 78226.
