Roger Anthony
Martinez Jr
May 13, 2003 – May 17, 2025
Roger Anthony Martinez, lovingly known as RJ, passed away on May 17, 2025, at the age of 22, in a tragic car accident. Born on May 13, 2003, in San Antonio, Texas, RJ lived a life full of energy, music, and love — a light that touched many and will never be forgotten.
RJ was a proud graduate of Thomas Edison High School and one of two of just 20 cadets to complete and pass the Edison magnet San Antonio Regional Fire Academy program — a remarkable achievement that reflected his courage and drive. A talented musician, he played the accordion and acoustic guitar and had a gift for rapping. He brought rhythm, soul, and laughter into every room he entered.
He was a passionate sports lover, a proud Dallas Cowboys fan, and an all-around athlete. But of all the roles RJ cherished, being a father was the one he held closest. His love for his daughter, Jhene Rose Martinez, was deep, proud, and unwavering — she was the light of his life.
RJ is deeply loved and will be forever missed by his parents, Roger Martinez and Priscilla Olivares; his step-parents, Jesse De La Cruz and Christine Martinez; his paternal grandparents, Ramiro Martinez & Eva Martinez, Sylvia Vargas & Abel Vargas, and maternal grandparents, Maria Olivarez & Tom Trejo; and his siblings: Arin Martinez, Emma Martinez, Abby Martinez, Joseph Daniel Martinez, Marley Sky Martinez, Oliver Martinez, Penelope Martinez, Faith De La Cruz, Roseanna Perez, Vicky De La Cruz, Jesse De La Cruz Jr., Julie De La Cruz, & Tommy Ruiz.
He leaves behind his beloved daughter, Jhene Rose Martinez, and her mother, Jaylin Rose Pesina , who will carry his memory forward with strength and love.
Funeral Services will be held at Castillo Funeral Home.
Public services — all are welcome to honor RJ's life.
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
— Psalm 34:18
To his daughter Jhene Rose:
Your daddy loved you beyond measure. Though his time here was short, his love will surround you every day of your life. In your smile, your laughter, and your dreams, his spirit will live on. You were his heart — always and forever.
