Roman C.
Hernandez Jr.
December 19, 1929 – February 15, 2024
Roman C. Hernandez Jr., our cherished patriarch, peacefully departed this life on February 15th, 2024, in the home of his devoted family. He graced this world for 94 years, his journey beginning in McAllen, Texas, on December 19, 1929. Roman's courageous spirit led him to serve with honor in the United States Air Force, where he discovered his passion for boxing, a pursuit he continued as an amateur athlete upon his return home, boxing for the YMCA.
Shortly after, Roman crossed paths with the love of his life, Mary G. Hernandez, who preceded him in passing in November of 2001. Together, they nurtured their family, raising three sons and two daughters, setting a foundation filled with love, strength, spirit, and perseverance.
Following a fulfilling career, Roman retired in February of 1991 from the Rainbow Bread Factory. He is survived by his adoring children, Rachel H. Barrera (Tony), Henry Hernandez Sr. (Delia), Jerry Hernandez (Patricia), and Lisa H. Rodriguez (Johnny), each a testament to his unwavering love and guidance. While Roman's eldest son, Fernando Hernandez, preceded him in death, his memory lives on in the hearts of those he cherished. Roman's life was simple, yet one of much celebration. He held dear the cherished memories shared with his beloved wife, Mary.
Roman found solace in his passions, particularly his appreciation for the sport of boxing and his craftsmanship in woodworking. He often enjoyed taking trips to the beach, the local park, and taking journeys of places he's once traveled, reminiscing his past. He enjoyed great company, laughter, sharing stories of his life, listening to music by Pedro Infante, and watching old black-and-white movies too.
His legacy extends beyond his immediate family to include a wealth of his 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, each a testament to the depth of his love and the richness of his life's journey. He leaves behind a profound void in the lives of those who were touched by his presence, his memory forever etched in the hearts of his family.
Roman leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and enduring familial bonds that will continue to illuminate the path for generations to come. May his soul find eternal peace in the embrace of the divine, and may he find his way home to his one true love Mary and be welcomed by the many relatives and friends that preceded him in death. May his memory remain a source of comfort and solace to all who were privileged to know him.
