Rosa Salas
Gauna
December 5, 1936 – August 20, 2023
Rosa Salas Gauna, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother (soon to be great- great
grandmother) was called to heaven on August 20, 2023, at the age of 86. Her last moments
were spent surrounded with love by her entire family and close friends.
Rosa was born in San Antonio, Texas on December 5, 1936 to Cipriano Salas and Consuelo
Guajardo Salas. She is preceded in death by husband Martin S. Gauna (1975); brothers Joe
Salas and Manuel Salas. Rosa will continue to be loved and missed by her daughters Rosa
Valenzuela (Alejandro), Catherine Apolinar (Arturo), Connie Rodriguez (Donald), Ana Gauna
Rodriguez and sons Martin Gauna Jr. (Velinda) and Ralph Gauna (Mary Alice); sisters Lile
Salas, Maria Garza, Connie Gonzalez; 19 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and numerous
nieces and nephews.
As the family matriarch, Rosa was the heart of the Gauna Family. Her home was always filled
with so much love, along with good home cooking, laughs, and hugs. Countless holidays,
birthday celebrations and family traditions were enjoyed by all of her children, grandchildren &
great-grandchildren in her home. Rosa loved to fill her time watching her novelas, shopping,
taking care of her bird, and watching The Dallas Cowboys and The San Antonio Spurs games
with her family. Rosa's love was always felt, whether it was with her yearly phone calls to
grandchildren and great grandchildren to bless them for the upcoming school year, or her call to
every teacher in the family to wish them a blessed school year. Her love also came through her
Facebook messages and comments, always ending with "Love, Nana."
Rosa, known to many as Nana and Mrs. Gauna will be greatly missed by all who knew her, and
her love and legacy will continue to live on through her greatest pride, her entire family including
numerous extended family members and friends.
Nana will live in our hearts forever.
Until we meet again.
