Obituary

Rosalio "CHALE" Perez, after a long illness, was called home to be with our Lord on Wednesday November 30, 2022, at the Blessed age of 88. At his time of death, he was at home surrounded by family.  He is reunited with his Parents: Eusebio and Jesusa Perez and siblings: Trine, Eulalia, Manuel, Jose, Bruno, Amelia, Julia, Victoria, Edward and grandson: Jesse Ollerbidez Jr.

He is survived by: Anita "Annie" Perez, Children: Maria Helen Silva, Yolanda Espinoza (Gilbert), Jerry Perez (Alexandra), Annabelle Martinez (John) Carlos Perez (Diane), Chadney Martinez (Manolito), Chadasy Silva. Children 7, Grandchildren 29 Great-grandchildren 15 and several nieces and nephews.

He was born November 3, 1934, in San Antonio, TX to Eusebio and Jesusa Perez. At the age of 17, Chale enlisted in the Navy, with approval of his mother Jesusa, due to his enlistment age. His duty assignment was on the U.S.S. Calahan, as a Gunners mate. A proud Navy veteran of the Korean War he earned many commendations during his service including, the Korean Service Medal with two engagements, United Nations Service Ribbon, China Service Medal (Extended), and the National Defense Service Medal. He was proud of his time in service and became an active-life member of the VFW Post 9186 & American Legion JFK Post 485.

He met the love of his life Annie in grade school, but did not pursue a relationship, until his adult years, he often stated, she was the Love of his life from the day he met her. He resided in his early years in West San Antonio with his Spouse Anita Perez. Later in life he moved with his daughter Annabelle and son-In-Law John, grandchildren Ethan-John Matthew, Lillianna Rose and Fabian.

He helped raise his grandchildren: Jesse Ollerbidez Jr, Joey Velasquez, Joselyn Velasquez and Joseton Velasquez, although they were ALL grandchildren, his love for them was more of an endearing father's love.

At a very young age his children and the neighborhood children were all introduced to the political arena. Under Manuel Medina and Choco Meza's tenure Chale held the position of Democratic Precinct 2030 Chair from 2012-2018.  He was always ready and willing to help his party's candidates with their campaigns.  Chale was well known around the political arena. So much so, that even candidates from the opposing party would reach out to him, to request his assistance with their campaigns.  Offers he never accepted, as he was loyal to his party.

He touched the lives of so many people. He was always there for HIS numerous nieces and nephews as well as the neighborhood children. Everyone knew, one could turn to him for advice or assistance, there was no judgement made. He often invited them to join the family on camping trips, BBQs at local parks and vacations. He made sure no one would go without. He enjoyed listening to blues music, especially Fats Dominio and BB King. He was quite a dancer.

He was a Devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to all who were blessed to have known him.  He was a man filled with a caring soul and quite often a jokester.

We would also like to take a moment to thank the staff of ELARA Caring Hospice, especially Madeline Ramos, for all her endearing compassion, as she oversaw the care of our father, as he neared the end of his life's journey.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday December 14, 2022, at Castillo Funeral Home from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Rosary to begin at 6:00 pm.
