Obituary

Rosendo (Rocky) Ramon was born in Robstown, TX, and later moved to San Antonio, TX. He was preceded in death by his mother, Cruz Villa Ramon; father, Simon Ramon; brothers Mario, Juan, Simon, Ruben (Blackie) Ramon and sister, Rosa Ramon.  He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lynette Ramon; sisters Beatrice Saldana, Senaida Flores, Antonia Soto; brother Rogelio Ramon (Rosa); son, Craig Ramon (Melissa); daughter, Lisa Fatheree (Tom); grandchildren, Brendon Moore (Georgina); Cory Ramon (Chanel); Brady Moore; Katelyn Beltran (Brandon); Cassara Ramon; Mikayla Ramon, Austin Ramon (Jessica), Tommy Morris (Isabel); Zachary Fatheree (Kylie), Jose Salazar (Leah); Joshua Salazar (Regan); and 13 great grandchildren.

Rocky graduated from Edgewood High School, where he was the ROTC cadet commander.  While in high school, he became an amateur boxer and later became a professional boxer.  He held the titles of Texas lightweight and junior welterweight champions.  In February of 1978, he fought Sugar Ray Leonard, and though he lost a decision, he was the first boxer to go the distance with Sugar Ray.

Rocky loved running and ran many marathons.  He also participated in the San Antonio Tower of the Americas run and held the record for the fastest time for several years.

Rocky was very active in his church, serving as a music worship leader and often singing solos and duets with his wife.  He also loved singing mariachi songs.  While he was a resident at Mesa Vista Health Center, everyone loved hearing him sing.

He worked for the cable company for over 30 years, beginning when it was UA Columbia, up until he retired when Time Warner was the local cable company.

Rocky was well-loved by all who knew him.  He always had a kind word and always enjoyed making people laugh with his stories and teasing.  He will be sorely missed by family and friends.

Thank you to the staff at Mesa Vista, the nurses from PPHP, and the staff of Freedom Hospice for the care they gave Rocky during his 2-1/2 years at Mesa Vista and in his final days in hospice care.
